I received a call this week from one of the store managers of a Starbucks in Memphis, TN. She called to let me know that their district will be holding "Scoops for Troops" for most of the month of November and that the 6-4 will be receiving 50% of donations collected.
Last year the Memphis district stores collected almost 2,000 bags of Starbucks coffee from their patrons and donated them to the 101st Airborne.
So if you're in the Memphis area please stop by a store and buy a bag or two. Whether your bag goes to the 6-4 CAV in Afghanistan or any other unit some deployed personnel will be the benefactor.
A few weeks ago I received a phone call from Dana, the manager of Starbucks on Hwy 302 in Southaven, MS asking if I'd be interested in working with her store to have patrons donate coffee for deployed Soldiers. Well, heck yeah!
So on Friday morning August 7th I grabbed a man in ACUs and hopped across the state line with my little rubber duckies (see them all sitting nice and cute on the table) in uniform to "encourage" the pre-coffee patrons to grab a bag on their way to the counter. We had about 30 bags when I left. Dana is going to continue the drive for the entire month of August. Hurray! By the way, you'd be surprised to see how grown men have difficulty deciding which duckie they want. LOL!
THEN....I got a call from the manager of "my" Starbucks asking if they could do the same thing. Well, heck yeah! So with little uniformed rubber duckies from the Army, Marines, Air Force and Navy in tow along with TWO men in ACUs we'll be at the Starbucks in Cordova on Germantown parkway next to Blockbuster this coming Friday morning August 21st. Come on down and help us out as we attempt to get enough coffee donated to get the 3rd BDE, 1st ID 6/4 CAV supplied for the winter.
I know there have been a lot of emails circulating over the past year or so about Starbucks not supporting our troops. Well...I can personally attest to the fact that isn't true. At least not here in the Memphis metro area. They had a drive recently to collect coffee for our troops and collected 2500 - yes that's TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED - TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED ONE POUND bags of coffee. Some of the coffee was purchased by patrons of the stores in town. The remainder was DONATED by the stores. Two Blackhawk helicopters flew down from Ft. Campbell, KY yesterday to pick up all of the coffee and send it on it's way to deployed personnel.
At "my" local Starbucks most of the staff GIVES me a bag of coffee each week that I send on to Afghanistan and Iraq. The employees are given one bag gratus each week and they have been giving me their bags for months now.
So..............if YOUR Starbucks doesn't support our troops maybe you should find another Starbucks!!!
