OCALA - Kindergarten students at Hammett L. Bowen Jr. Elementary School sang and mimed "It's a Grand Old Flag" on Tuesday for U.S. Army Sgt. David Concepcion, who returns to Afghanistan today to rejoin the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
Principal Leanna Dixon earlier had welcomed Concepcion, father of three students at the school, on the morning videotaped program watched by the children on televisions in their classrooms.
"There are some days more special than others, and I think today qualifies for that," Dixon said. "This morning I want to introduce to you one of our own parents, who also is serving in the military."
Dixon shook hands with Concepcion, who has been home on leave for a few weeks, and introduced other guests as his wife, Liz, proudly watched.
