2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry (Airborne) "The Rock" update 10/14/07
First of all I'd like to say thank you to Michelle Malkin Link to Michelle's blog for mentioning my blog post about Starbucks here in Memphis and their drive to collect coffee for deployed personnel. She mentions it at the bottom of her post "The Ghost Whisperer" does right by our troops. Story here
A short but important update today about our on going project to provide winter necessities to 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry (Airborne) "The Rock". I received two very brief communications from the Soldiers. They want to express their appreciation to each of you who has already sent items or who are in the process of doing so. It seems they are a bit surprised and deeply touched by the interest in so many wanting to support them. I'm not surprised - I know there are many great Americans who care about our military personnel.
I'm adding two items to the "wish" list. I know from prior support of Soldiers in that area these items are important A "shame on me" for failing to include on the original list.
- Thin warm fabric head caps (like ski caps but thin) - 800. To wear under their helmets. One place you can order these is via the milblog "A Soldiers Perspective" here. Scroll down and look for the US Cavalry link on the right. That link will direct you to the U S Cavalry site. Look for item #30365. This is actually more than just the cap itself but much warmer all around. "A Soldiers Perspective" will recieve a portion of the proceeds but is donating ALL of any proceeds they receive to charities and projects, like this one, for deployed personnel. To date "A Soldiers Perspective" has donated over $35,000 to charities and deployed personnel.
- Thermal underwear - 1600 pair. These can also be ordered via the link to U S Cavalry at "A Soldiers Perspective." (See link above). Look for item #30367.
U S Cavalry has the neck gators as well. Item #30362.
Thanks for the "tip" ConcreteBob!!!
I also received this in an email from one of the wives who is at the base in Italy:
Thank you again for all you are doing. I copy and pasted your blog about the socks for soldiers to my hubby. He loved it. Said seeing how the kids are soo supportive is one of the biggest morale boosters he can have. THANKS again.
Love to you and yours,
XXXXX
It is such an honor to both work with Americans like all of you who have contacted me about donating as well as to do this WITH you in order to make life a bit more comfy for our Soldiers. Thank you all.

Definitely gotta check out the Starbucks close by.
I missed the show! Dang. Hope I can see a rerun. Glad it was done well. Like the new pic on the side!
I missed the show, too, Donna. I'll be looking for it in the "off" season.
Aside from the fact that I was sick as a dog that day, that photo is one of my favorites from Kosovo. What a treat to get to go on the flight line at Camp Bondsteel AND have a tour by one of the Apache pilots.
